How do I know what size is best for me?

Freestate fit as any other sneaker – When we issue release the size / colour survey (once the campaign has finished) please state your “regular” sneaker size. Please note that all brands fit slightly different so we also have a CM insole measurement guide on the main campaign page for you to double check.

Do you offer half sizes or width fittings?

No – Please double check your foot length in CM to gauge the best fit for you. With regards to the width Freestate Men’s sizes are a D fitting and on Ladies they are a B fit both are used by most footwear companies as a “Standard” fit.

When do I order my size and colour?

When the Kickstarter campaign is finished we will be in touch to get the size and colour details from you.

You do not appear to be making my size?

We had to ensure that the sizes we tooled for production would be capable of generating sufficient order quantities to justify to initial tooling costs and as such we decided that we would run from a UK Ladies 3 to UK Men’s 11. If the demand proves such – we will look into expanding the sizes range as a stretch goal.

Can I wear Freestate in the sea as well as the pool?

Freestate was designed to be used in water just as much as on land, we recommend that after use in the sea that they should be run under non-salt water to remove any salt residue that will appear on the surface of the shoe as they dry – this is perfectly normal and is easily washed off. But please note that Freestate is neither water resistant or waterproof.

How quickly will they dry?

The speed of drying will depend on the temperature and humidity of where you are – also direct warm sunlight will speed up the process. We recommend that once worn in water that you remove the insole prior to drying.

Is Freestate machine washable?

Yes they are – Please remove the insole prior to placing in a washing machine – please wash them at 30 degrees and leave them to dry naturally.

When can I expect my shoes to arrive?

The first deliveries will start Mid-March 2019. We will be having the shoes shipped direct from Asia to you.

Will I have any taxes or duties to pay on my shoes?

Your shoes will be shipped straight from Asia – You may well be liable for import taxes/dutie depending on your country of residence – we have no control over this and recommend that you check your countries import rates from China with your local import/export government department.

Does Ten Thousand Islands have any experience with making and supplying shoes?

This is our very first Crowdfunding campaign but certainly not the first shoe we have worked on, Members of our team have developed, manufactured and supplied. Over the last 20 years our design/technical guys have made and supplied close to 1 million pairs of shoes for numerous brands.

Given the delays and issues experienced by backers of another travel shoe earlier this year with regards to the brand name – can you confirm that Ten Thousand Islands has been registered and checked as a genuine brand?

Once our branding expert Tom had confirmed to us the name and Split sun logo we got on and applied right away to have the name checked an approved by the Intellectual property office – we waited 6 weeks and were given the OK, its our name and logo and we are proud of it – a shoe without branding is just a soulless foot covering in our book.

BackerKit FAQ

What is BackerKit?

BackerKit is a service that crowdfunded project creators use to keep track of hundreds to tens of thousands of backers—from shipping details, pledge levels, preferences and quantities, whether they have paid or had their card declined, special notes, and everything in between!

The BackerKit software and support team is independent from the campaign’s project team—BackerKit does not handle the actual reward shipping. For more information about the preparation or delivery status of your rewards, please check the project's updates page.

How does BackerKit work?

After the campaign ends, the project creator will send you an email with a unique link to your survey. You can check out a walkthrough of the process here.

I never received my invitation. How do I complete the survey?

The most common reasons for not receiving a survey email is that you may be checking an email inbox different from the email address you used to sign up with Kickstarter, Indiegogo or Tilt Pro account, or it may be caught in your spam filter.

Confirm that the email address you are searching matches the email address tied to your Kickstarter, Indiegogo, or Tilt Pro account. If that doesn’t work, then try checking your spam, junk or promotions folders. You can also search for "backerkit” in your inbox.

To resend the survey to yourself, visit the project page and input the email address associated with your Kickstarter, Indiegogo or Tilt Pro account.

How do I update my shipping address?

BackerKit allows you to update your shipping address until the shipping addresses are locked by the project creator. To update your address, go back to your BackerKit survey by inputting your email here.

When will my order be shipped, charged or locked?

That is handled directly by the project creator. BackerKit functions independently of the project itself, so we do not have control of their physical shipping timeline. If you want to check on the project’s status, we recommend reading over the project's updates page.

I completed the survey, but haven't received my rewards yet. When will they arrive?

As BackerKit does not actually handle any rewards or shipping, the best way to stay updated on the shipping timeline would be to check out the project's updates page.
